A medieval short-cross cut halfpenny of John (1199-1216), class 5b2, struck by Pieres at Durham (dating to 1205-7). Reverse: [...]RES.ON. [...], where the incomplete letter after the second stop has a vertical upright. Reference: North 970 ii. With especial thanks to Rob Webley for pinpointing the class. Mr Webley comments: '...the form of the letter R is 5b2 onwards, and the letter E brackets it at the other end with 6a (as with the moneyer). But looking at relevant coins within this bracket, the position of the letter N (etc) only really works with 5b2, and everything else stack…

A clipped silver penny of Edward IV - 1st Reign Heavy Coinage struck at the mint in Durham - Class 4 similar to North 1544 with a central rose on the reverse and an additional pellet in the first quarter. Paul Withers - Galata Coins - comments: Coins of Edward IV are struck on very small flans or they have been clipped. This is almost a feature you can use to recognise them. Secondly on this one has been struck from 'locally made dies' which mean that they are a little oddly made. A bent 16th-century silver post-medieval penny of Henry VIII (AD 1509-1547), sovereign type, issued at Durham under Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, initial mark unclear, AD 1526-1529, North 1811. This coin has been pierced through the obverse at the inner circle at about 11 o'clock to avoid the king's head. This corresponds to about 2 o'clock on the reverse. This may be a later adaptation into an item of jewellery.
