A fragment of an Early Medieval stirrup strap mount, dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The fragment consists of a broadly triangular stirrup strap mount which has been regularly pierced at intervals. Two circular piercings survive completely, while two are missing their outer perimeter due to its fragility, A further less regular pair of ovoid apertures are also largely missing and only to be hinted at from their upper areas, which survive. Along the central spine of the mount are two raised relatively square areas with a more circular depression between them. These are notably concave …

A worn late early-medieval copper-alloy strap-end of Thomas's Class E, Type 5, culturally Carolingian (c. 10th century). The strap-end is tongue shaped, with a recessed attachment end with two circular perforations, and terminating in a broad curve at the other end. The recessed step at the attachment end is on the reverse, with a 'ledge' below it; the strap-end thins from this point towards the terminal, attaining a constant thickness after a gradual thinning. The front of the strap end is decorated, cast in relief, with a floriated cross dominating the field within a raised borde…

Just below the mid-point the plate of the mount narrows into a waist, 25.0 mm wide, with a small semicircular depression on each side. The mount is generally flat, c. 2.1 mm thick, but thicknening at the centre into a raised boss 3.4 mm thick, although due to its highly abraded surface little decoration is visible. An incomplete late early-medieval/Anglo-Scandinavian copper-alloy bridle cheekpiece (c. 11th century AD). The remaining object consists of one of the sides plates which joins a projecting arm, emerging broadly at a right angle, with a vestigial terminal loop. The surviving plate would have had an equivalent to the other side of the large hole through which the end of the bit would have travelled. The plate is formed of a outward curving Ringerike-style animal head and neck in profile. The neck is long and curves gradually; the head follows the curve, but curves upwards at the nose. At…
