The vessel is globular with an everted rim and flat base with low pedistal rim. The base shows concentric rings and a central dimple, suggesting that a lathe was used to raise the metal into a thin sheet. Hammered sheet metal? Copper alloy escutcheon in the form of a human head of possible Iron Age or Roman date (c.100BC to 100AD). The face has distinctive lentoid eyes and a simple nose, with a short straight cut line for the mouth. There are also faint traces of mould line suggesting a hairline across the forehead and down the sides of the face.The back of the object is flat. A lead sealing dating to the second or third century AD. The sealing is in the shape of a figure of 8 in plan and is rectangular in section. The obverse is badly worn and incomplete. It may depict a horse and rider, advancing to the left; the angle even suggests the horse is jumping. The reverse is plain. The sealing appears to be pierced vertically at the narrow point of the figure of eight, but this is not altogether clear. The sealing measures 9mm in length, 16mm in width and 3mm in thickness.
