No. 1 on the attached photograph. A late Upper Palaeolithic non-geometic microlith, dating from 11,000 BC to 8,300 BC. Multiple bladelet / flakes have previously been removed from the surface of the flake. There is evidence of retouch.

Microliths, made from flint. They have all been knapped, using larger blade blanks or flakes, which have then been ‘cut’ into smaller pieces, by precisions blows. The pieces consist of two blade ends, four sections of blades, and one flake: this latter may simply be a waste flake, although its almost regular shape shows that it could have been mounted on a tool or weapon. A small burin or borer, made of black flint. Most of the surfaces have the beginnings of a grey patina, still shiny; however, the apparent later removal of some flakes around the grip, and an apparent line of retouch down one side of the point, have exposed the black flint beneath. Since it can take a considerable length of time for the grey patina to form, this suggests a long period between the original making of the piece and its retouching and reuse. A small, crudely made Barbed and Tanged arrowhead. The arrowhead has been knapped out of flint. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked into an arrowhead shape, with a sharp point, and straight, sharp edges. It has a flaw in the flint, which has lead to a large flake to be lost on one side. The arrowhead weighs: 3.18g. This type of arrowhead dates to the Bronze Age (c. 2500-1500).

A collection of 26 flint working fragments known as ‘debitage’, weighing a total of 497g. All of the fragments date roughly from c.2500-600 BC and are therefore largely Bronze Age in date, a slightly earlier/later date can not be ruled out, since these fragments are only debitage and not finished tools. Four of the largest fragments of flint have had a number of flakes removed from their surface.
