An incomplete copper alloy "kräftig-profilierte" or 'strongly profiled' brooch dating from the earlier Roman period (AD 43-AD 100). The brooch survives in good shape with only the pin and part of the spring missing. The other components are in very good condition, with a smooth patina. The brooch can be classified as a "kräftig-profilierte" type. It has short wings that are slightly concave at rear in order to form a seating for a bilateral spring of which about half is missing. A claw at the rear would have secured the interior chord which is an extension of the spring. The bow fla…

Cast cu-alloy 'screw' with heart-shaped handle, probably dating to the late medieval or early post-medieval period, i.e. AD1500-1700. The heart-shaped handle is made up of two bent 'halves' which may have been bent slightly out of shape subsequently. The 'screw' part displayed a very basic, rounded thread which suggest an earlier date (Geoff Egan, pers. comm.). The screw would have been too weak to hold something heavy in place and is best seen perhaps as a part of an early 'sewing vice' which could be clamped to a table to facilitate sewing, stitching and mending of fabric. The actual…
