Incomplete cast copper alloy grip or hilt of a sword. Probably eighteenth century (AD 1700 – AD 1800). Length 73mmm, maximum diameter 8.0mm. Weight 19.57g.
The object is roughly circular in cross-section throughout its length and one end curves slightly. About mid-way along its length it is 8.0mm in diameter and the diameter diminishes towards each of the ends where there are old breaks. At each end the diameter is 5mm. Complete gold suspension loop, possibly from a bracteate of Early Early-Medieval date (AD 400 - AD 600). Treasure case no. BM2005 T408. Width 5 mm, maximum diameter 5 mm. Weight 0.66 g. The pendant is made from a thin rectangular strip of sheet gold which has four lightly moulded longitudinal ribs. The square-cut ends overlap from slight crushing. The outer surface of the hoop is convex and plain and the inner surface of the hoop is falt and plain. The oval bezel has a crudely incised monogram in Gothic-Revival style: letters CD or DC. The ring is in good condition but is worn.

The mount is made from a short length of beaded gold wire wound six times to form a cone whose apex is filled with an individual gold bead. The mount is hollow and bridged by a narrow gold strip under which a strap could be threaded.
