An incomplete cast copper alloy flat axehead of Early Bronze Age date c. 2150 BC – c. 1500 BC). Length 45.1mm, width 37.1mm and 7.8mm thick. Weight 42.17g. The butt and one of the blade tips are missing and the breaks are old. The blade of the axe was probably symmetrical in plan. The blade expands from the break at the top (the butt end) and originally the wing tips flared outwards abruptly and evenly. A fragment of a cast copper alloy crescent-shaped strap end of Medieval date (c. AD 1400 - c. AD 1500). Length 23.0mm, width 26.0mm and 2.1mm thick. Weight 3.04g. This fragment is the terminal end of a strap end. It is moulded at the front and is largely flat at the rear. At the front it is decorated with crude double and triple-stranded "interlace" work that form a lattice pattern. These features are interspersed with four circular openwork perforations. Issued as emergency coinage by James II to pay the troops and is known as ‘Gun Money’ because it was made from scrap metal.
