Part of a cast copper alloy mount (possibly) of probable Early-Medieval date AD 410 – AD 1066). Length: 29.5mm, width: 29.6mm and 2.7mm thick. Weight: 4.88g. The object resembles the head-plate of an Early Medieval radiate-headed brooch although it is definitely not part of a brooch. It is largely flat and has a projecting lobe at the ‘top’ and one at each ‘side’. Each lobe is perforated and is filled with corroded iron, possibly the remains of rivets or pins. At the ‘bottom’ a central projection, which has an old abraded break, resembles part of the bow of a brooch. H…

The area formed by the cross has gilded waffle-work in raised relief. The areas between the arms are plain and not gilded. The rear face is plain. Both faces of the disc are corroded and in poor condition. Traces of a mi…

Fragment of a copper alloy circular gilded mount with interlace work of Early Early-Medieval date (AD 600 - AD 700). The mount would have been about 68mm in diameter, when complete. It is about 2.5mm thick and weighs 10.41g. Two small portions of the central part survive and these are decorated with three-stranded Style II animal interlace (part of a foot or paw appears to be present). This representation of an animal was enclosed by a circle of closely spaced repetitive punch marks which are lozenge-shaped and each has a central pellet. The circumferential beaded rim is slightly th…
