A complete cast copper alloy guard from the lower part of the handle of a late eighteenth century military sword. Length: 74.5mm; width: 70.6mm and 7.3mm thick. Weight: 61.36g.
The object is sub-oval and almost symmetrical in plan and has a raised border on each face. It has a central rectangular opening (17.8mm x 12.1mm) to accommodate a tang. At each side of the narrower part of the opening the upper surface of the guard has been chamfered by filing. One half of the guard is slightly smaller than the other half.
The object is in good condition and has a pale to mid-green patina…

An incomplete cast copper alloy guard from the lower part of the handle of a late eighteenth century military sword. Length 69.0mm, width 38.0mm and 3.6mm thick. Weight 38.48g.
The object is sub-oval in plan and has a raised border on each face. The break is crisp but appears to be old.
Pale to mid-green patina overall.

Incomplete cast copper alloy grip or hilt of a sword. Probably eighteenth century (AD 1700 – AD 1800). Length 73mmm, maximum diameter 8.0mm. Weight 19.57g.
The object is roughly circular in cross-section throughout its length and one end curves slightly. About mid-way along its length it is 8.0mm in diameter and the diameter diminishes towards each of the ends where there are old breaks. At each end the diameter is 5mm.
