A lead alloy token of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), struck c. 1574 (North 1991: 140, ref: 2063). North comments: ‘There exist a number of lead or pewter pieces which have in the past been described as patterns or tokens. It is more probable however that they were political medalets or counters, as some would appear to relate to Mary, Queen of Scots, and the workmanship on most is rather crude. They are normally found in London, and were struck about 1574 (North 1991: 140).

A complete silver double patard (also known as the double plack) of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy (1467-1477). A complete silver half cruzado (200-reis) of King John IV of Portugal ('o Restaurador', 1640-56), presumably minted at Lisbon. The countermark on the reverse '250' relates to a revaluation under John IV's successor, Afonso VI ('o Vitorioso', 1656-67), brought on by the cost of wars against Spain. A copper-alloy uniface coin weight, probably for a Half Noble coin of c. 1421-1471. One face has the stamped mark of a crowned lis, the other side is blank but has a small circular depression at the centre from the lathe turning process. It measures 12.9mm in diameter, 1.5mm thick and weighs 1.25g.

An incomplete copper alloy "shilling" dated June 1690 (Spink 2003, 171, ref. 6582). Issued as emergency coinage by James II to pay the troops and is known as ‘Gun Money’ because it was made from scrap metal. The coins were dated including the month of issue and it was intended that this coinage would be redeemed as soon as James II regained the English throne.
