A worn and slightly clipped medieval silver double patard of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy (1467-1477), first issue (1467-74), minted in Flanders (Bruges; van Gelder & Hoc 23-1). Ref: van Gelder & Hoc 1960: 22. The obverse bears a quartered shield and coat of arms, and the reverse bears an ornate cross with a lis at the centre. The inscription on the obverse reads +KAROLVS:DEI:GRA:DVX:BVRG:CO:FLA with annulet stops and on the reverse is the legend +SIT:NOMEN:DOMINI:BENEDICTVM: with a fire steel motif at the end.

Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman hinged Colchester derivative, hinged brooch. Both ends of each arm are broken off, revealing the copper alloy spindle that runs through the centre to hold the hinge, the remains of which can also be seen in the slot at the back of the head. A copper-alloy Roman barbarous radiate, probably imitating a coin of Claudius II (AD 268-270), posthumous 'Divus' Claudius issue of AD 270-271, dating from the period c.AD 275-285 (Reece period 14). CONSECRATIO reverse type depicting a crude version of an altar. According to Reece and James (2000, pp.42-43) this type was often copied. Similar irregular copies are illustrated in catalogues of the Cunetio hoard on p.160, pl.34, no.2875:2 and from the Normanby hoard on p.205, pl.32, no.1832/3, but the current example is very stylised.

Roman silver radiate coin of Philip I (AD 244-249), dating to AD 248 (Reece Period 12), SAECVLARES AVGG // II reverse type depicting a she-wolf standing left suckling Romulus and Remus. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 3, p. 70, no. 70 / pl. 6, no. 15. The coin has a cut mark across the face of the emperor which has not penetrated the thickness of the coin. It was issued in Rome in AD 248 to publicise the Secular Games which were part of the celebrations of the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Rome (753 BC) in AD 248.

Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman hinged Initial T-shaped, South-western derivative brooch. The crossbar is corroded and the ends are incomplete but appear to be bulbous. The brooch is quite heavily made, and the lower part of the brooch and the hinged pin mechanism is missing. The crossbar is 33 mm in length and 6 mm in diameter at its thinnest and 6.5 mm in diameter at the bulbous end. A cast lead cylindrical powder charger cap, with a flat oval lid. The cap has been pressed from both sides so that the edges almost meet and the base is more ovate than it would have been originally. The comparatively thin sides would have flared outwards towards the oval or circular mouth of the powder flask. This example now measures 29 by 14.2 mm. It is 16 mm high and 1.1 mm thick. It weighs 12 g. The powder cap would have been part of a powder-charger or powder-holder, a small flask holding enough powder for a complete charge for the weapon. A series of these holders were …
