A small dark blue wound spherical glass bead with an off central perforation. The bead is slightly miss-shaped, due to the bead being held too long in heat during the manufacturing process. The bead would have been formed on an iron mandrel or rod, by melting glass until it flowed onto a rotated rod to form a disc. The bead is 10.8 mm in diameter, 7.5 mm in height with a the central perforation that varies from 2.8 mm to 3 mm in diameter, suggesting that the iron rod that it was made on was tapered. A cast copper alloy oval setting containing an opaque blue glass intaglio, with a trace of a red border around the edge of intaglio and a bevelled edge to the copper alloy frame. The red material is probably setters wax, made of shellac and turpentine or resin, which was used to hold the glass intaglio within the frame. There is a trace of white substance on the edges of the frame of the intaglio, perhaps lead solder. The intaglio depicts a bust of a head facing right. Glass bottle seal fragment inscribed [Cove]ntry [Ho]use. Coventry House was the London residence of the Earls of Coventry, situated just off the Haymarket. A similar more complete bottle seal fragment has been found in the same parish, with the date 1709, along with one further example. In 1709, Coventry House was the property of Thomas, 2nd Earl Coventry. However, the Earl died the the following year and was suceeded by his son Thomas, 3rd Earl Coventry. Whilst Burton (2015, 534) suggests that a Coventry House seal dated 1702 may celebrate the birth of Thomas, the 2nd Earl's only son…
