The handle is broken at both ends, with a clean break at the narrow neck of the handle (which would have continued to the body of the patera if complete). At the opposing end, only a small part of the circular terminal remains with part of the circular suspension hole also remaining, which is edged by a thick, raised collar. The neck of the handle has a marginal groove with a raised border to either side, as well as another curved raise…

Two strands of circular cross-section wire that have been twisted together and then bent into a small loop. The ends show that they have been deliberately chiselled, suggesting this was cut from a longer length of twisted wires, or a larger object such as a torc or bracelet. Measurements: Diameter: 20.5-22mm; Thickness (single wire): 2mm; Thickness (wires twisted together): 3.5-4.0mm; Weight: 4.04g Discussion: This fragment could have formed part of a torc or bracelet, made up of several twisted wires, which was broken up in antiquity. Copper alloy sheet tweezers length 57mm, width 8mm, thickness 9mm weight 5.07g. Sheet metal that has been bent double. The fold has been bent into an penannular loop, from this point the gap between each blade gently widens to the tips, which have bent inwards to meet and form the pincer. An incised groove runs parallel to each edge. A very similar artefact was found in excavations in Colchester (see N. Crummy; 1983; pp. 59; no. 1883). .

Lead alloy whirligig or buzz disc, which has been cut from lead sheeting. The buzz disc is circular in plan and has a shape serrated edge. In the centre are two pinched off-centre holes, through which a looped string or cord would have been threaded. The spinning disc would have produced a whirring noise when the tension was relaxed by pulling the hands apart (Forsyth and Egan 2005, p. 387). A number of similar objects have been found in London, which Forsyth and Egan suggest date from the 17th or 18th centuries. G Egan and H Forsyth, 2005. Toys, trifles and trinkets London : Museum…
