A complete cast copper-alloy buckle of Medieval date (AD 1300-1500). The buckle is a single loop rectangular type with four transverse grooves on its front edge and a narrowed strap bar. The plate is retained and has a bifurcated attachment to the buckle to facilitate a pin. The plate is smooth and undecorated.
The metal is a light green to brown in colour.

A copper alloy buckle plate dating to the thirteenth century. In plan the buckle plate is in the shape of a bird or the letter 'M'. The wings and back of the bird have marginal rouletted decoration following the shape of the plate . Three pairs of horizontal rouletted decoration transverse the rectangular panel situated above the tail. Three triangular notches mark the slightly flared tail. A circular iron rivet, pierces each wing tip, and would have served to secure the buckle plate onto the leather strap.
