An incomplete copper alloy unidentified object, possibly a window latch, of uncertain date. The artefact has a a central iron pin with two protrusions either side, one thickens slightly, the front face is convex with a slight raised ridge running along the centre, the reverse is concave. The opposite protrusion is broadly semi-circular in cross section and tapers to a point, which appears to have an old break. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The artefact has a mid-green patina which indicates the artefact is of some age. The artefact is 29.4mm in length, 6.4mm in width, 6.25mm …

A cast copper alloy object, which is possibly an Early Medieval dagger or sword pommel or a Medieval mace head. However due to it being so fragmentary, identification cannot be certain one way or the other. The artefact is a sub pointed oval in plan, and has a curved 'n' shape in section which tapers in depth towards each corner. It has moulded decoration in the form of three radiating angular lobes, which from one face are triangular, the central triangle is inverted. The head has an outward facing “face” with a pointed chin, two horizontal grooves across the middle, slanted rectangular eyes which are holes and pointed ears (of which one is broken). Back to back with this face is another which is much more functional. It has a similar shield shape and has two rectangular holes at the top which could be interpreted as eyes, and a vertical rectangular hole which could be a mouth or nose. The two faces ar…

A post medieval Venetian coin; a soldino of Agostino Barbarigo (1486-1501) made of an unusual alloy of gold and silver which appears golden coloured instead of the usual silver. This design was used by Barbarigo before he changed over to the new (and much more common) soldino design. However, the style overall is bad, especially the lettering and the mint mark of N over M to the right of the doge is not listed in the detailed catalogue (Barrie Cook pers comm.) This, and the unusual metal suggests that it is some form of contemporary copy or an unknown variety. The coin is discoloured …
