A Medieval gold annular and inscribed brooch dating from AD 1250 - 1350. The frame is circular and is decorated at the top with a pair of clasped hands. These are moulded, but they curve in the same orientation as the frame of the brooch. At the right hand and bottom cardinal points are flower motifs; one four petalled flower at each point. The petals are concave. The left hand cardinal point is occupied by the constriction for the pin. The flat upper face of the frame is inscribed: "+ IO - SVI - DE . A complete gold Stater of Corieltauvian B Reduced weight type 805-11 of Iron age date (55-45 BC). The Obverse is of the abstracted head of Apollo right with a spike and two crescents (right), small pellets near the above and a wreath with leaves inward. The reverse is of a disjointed horse left with a sunflower below and pellets and rays on the left hand side with two parallel exergual lines with appended vertical lines. Van Arsdell (Spink). A post medieval Venetian coin; a soldino of Agostino Barbarigo (1486-1501) made of an unusual alloy of gold and silver which appears golden coloured instead of the usual silver. This design was used by Barbarigo before he changed over to the new (and much more common) soldino design. However, the style overall is bad, especially the lettering and the mint mark of N over M to the right of the doge is not listed in the detailed catalogue (Barrie Cook pers comm.) Gold quarter stater, a good example of a Gallo-Belgic import (listed as 69-1 in Van Arsdell's Celtic Coinage of Britain). These date to c. 50 BC and were produced in fairly large quantities somewhere in Belgica - possibly in the territory of the Morini - from where they were imported, also in fairly large numbers, to Britain. There are about 80 of this type from the UK to date. Most of them tend to be in the south-east, and this seems to be only the third example recorded from Lincolnshire (the others are from Bourne and Sleaford).
