A sherd of Medieval vessel, dating to AD 1200 - 1400. Undiagnostic body fragment, possibly a sherd of Potterhanworth Ware. The outer fabric is brown with a slightly red tint and soapy surface, it is decorated with a wave-like pattern towards the lower end of the sherd. It has an oxidised dark grey core. The interior surface is very worn. There are abundant of large and small hard white calcite inclusions (shell) and some small pitted voids. The exterior surface is compact. The rim and shoulder of a curved-rimmed cooking pot. There is sooting under the rim and on the exterior, and a groove at the shoulder. The fabric is shell-tempered and similar to the fabric of Dales ware jars suggesting a north, rather than south-Lincolnshire or Northampton area of manufacture. It dates from the mid-2nd to the 3rd century. Vessels found with sooting should be handled carefully, since the sooting could indicate the type of wood used for cooking.

Rims, some abraded, of wide mouthed bowls. Most have short necks of later 2nd to early 3rd century date (179-225 AD). Vessels with taller necks are later in date. Late Roman types have necks up to 4cms and are of later 3rd to 4th century date (270-400 AD). Nearly all of the rims are burnished or polished on the exterior and over to the interior and are of various diameters. They are made in various locations in Lincolnshire, including the Lincoln kilns, and are used as large casserole/stew pots.

A fragment from a bowl, probably Dragendorff 35/6. The fabric is high fired and contains numerous fine voids and is very similar to that produced in Central France at the kilns at Les Martres de Veyre from 100-120 AD.

The rim and upper wall of a colour-coated castor box lid with rouletted decoration in a light brown fabric made at the Nene Valley kilns in the 3rd century. They fitted a similarly decorated castor box and could have been used at the table as a fine ware containing special ingredients or domestically as, for example, a hair-pin box.

The neck and handle sherd from an amphora containing wine from Southern France of the Gauloise 4/Dressel 30 type. There is a finger mark to the right of the handle made by the potters finger. The fabric contains prominent amounts of limestone. The base is somewhat crude, without a footring, and similar to the Dressel 30 narrow base. The presence of this vesel is unusual and generally confined to urban rather than rural sites. A worn and sooted rim fragment from a curved rimmed jar in vesicular fabric. The vesicular appearance is a result of inclusions, possibly shell, that leached out during firing. It was probably made very locally and is quite coarsely tempered. It cannot be dated precisely but is probably of 2nd to mid 3rd century date.

2 rims and 2 body sherds of Dales ware jars. There is sooting at the interior of rim of one vessel. They have distinctive rims and were made with a shell-tempered fabric in North Lincolnshire. In the Roman City of Lincoln they are found from the mid-3rd century to the 4th (250-400). However, near the source of manufacture (as Saltfleetby) they could arrive earlier from perhaps 200 AD. They are generally handmade towards the base but finished on a slow wheel at the rim, and were used as cooking pots.

The body sherd of a lug-handled jar in a locally produced grey ware. The handle is neat and small and there are traces of burnished, wavey-line decoration at the side of the handle. The fabric is quite fine with a light grey core and the vessel is very well made. It would have been ised as a liquid holder either in the kitchen or at the table. It dates from the mid 2nd to the early to mid 3rd century.

The rim and neck of a wide-mouth jar with bifurcated rim. This type of jar is a common form in Nene Valley grey ware, but the fabric of this sherd is that of a locally produced grey ware. Sherd from a locally produced hemispherical bowl. There is a line of judder rouletting at the girth. This type of rouletting is indicative of late Roman pottery and cruder than the early to mid Roman rouletting. This sherd dates from the later 3rd to the 4th century, and was probably used as oven to table ware.
