"Originally thought to have been parts of the same object, close inspection and analysis has shown that these two fragments come from two separate strap-ends. Each fragment is 25 mm in length, but the mid-section fragment has a silver content of approximately 97 per cent, while the endsection's silver content is approximately 93 per cent. A copper alloy zoomorphic terminal of probable late early medieval date, cAD900-1050 and of uncertain precise purpose. The object takes the form of an animal head with pointed snout and prominent pointed ears, deeply drilled eye hollows (perhaps for a glass inlay) and two drilled shallow nostril hollows. The upper face of the terminal is rounded and the lower face is flat. The attachment end of the terminal is hollow, although it is not clear how far the hollow extends. Copper-alloy lower guard from a Viking Age sword, with interlace decoration on both sides. The decoration plates were originally gilded, and approximately half of this gilding has survived. The shape of the object, when viewed from above, is an elongated oval. The object has a hole through its centre (top to bottom). This hole is widest at the base (65.2mm), where the blade would have been inserted, and narrows to 32mm at the top, where the sword handle would have projected. Miniature bow brooch. The headplate is semi-circular and undecorated, with three medium-sized rounded knobs, one at the top and one just above the corner on either side. Each knob has at least one groove across its base, and the headplate itself has a bevelled edge. The bow is short, humped and undecorated.
