Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete copper alloy mount of Early-Medieval date. The mount is triquetra in form with a flat, rectangular profile. The upper surface is decorated with an intricate carved interlace design which retains gilding. The exact nature of the decoration is difficult to determine due to wear though an intertwining rope work-style border appears to be present around each loop and into the centre panel. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
The metal has a mid-greenish patina and is worn. The object is 21.8mm long, 20mm wide, 1.8mm thick and weighs 2.5g.

Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An elaborate quatrefoil shaped cast copper alloy harness pendant, with inlaid enamelling. Ashley believes that these elaborate harness pendants were a later development of the earlier pendants. This example displays 'arms which are allusive for England and France' (Ashley, 2002, p23). He goes on to state that such pendants are likely to have been made after 1340 'when the fleur-de-lis of France were quartered with the lions of England'. Although an earlier date cannot be ruled out, due to earlier known alliances between England and France. The pendant has four lobes, each with a small…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An Anglo-Saxon or Anglian strap end (Thomas classification Class A, Type 1). Two rivet holes would have been located at this end of the strap end, but the attachment end has been badly damaged. The other terminal of the strap end has a much stylised zoomorphic head. The head projects away from the main body of the strap end as a tapering and facetted knop. The front plate of the strap end has been decorated with a design in high relief, the object is worn…

An incomplete copper alloy buckle plate of 9th-century date. It is made from a single thin sheet of copper alloy, which tapers from a wider to a narrower end. Both ends are incomplete. At the wider end there are two sub-rectangular projections with a rectilinear slot in between; this may be the remains of two hinge loops to attach the plate to a frame. At the other end are two incomplete circular rivet holes. Between the rivet holes is an engraved sub-triangular shape, two sides concave and the other convex, which may be related to the 'fan-shaped' motifs found on 9th-century strap-en…
