An incomplete Middle Iron Age copper alloy brooch, dating to c. 250-100 BC. Adams, 2013, Type 2Ba3. The pin is missing. The brooch has three sub-oval cone-shaped hollow bosses in a line, creating a scalloped edge on each side. Each boss has a setting in the apex for coral or enamel, now missing. At each end of the brooch is a transverse collar and an elongated knop similar to an acorn shape which extends from the base of the cone. The cones thus are raised up from the ends. Below one knop is a sub-triangular pierced double lug which would have held a hinged pin, and below the other, …

Probably a cast copper strap mount also called a 'pressure tectonic' dating from the late Iron Age or early Roman period, that is c. 100BC-AD200. The artefact is nearly complete and in very good condition. It is of roughly triangular shape with a flat top and three large spikes on the underside. One of the points of the triangle terminates in a break, but there is no further damage or breakages on the other side. Opposite the break, the other two points of the triangle terminate in two ornamental knops with carved or incised crosses on the circular tops. Below, the copper alloy is qui…

A cast copper-alloy Iron Age linch pin terminal, which is the foot of the pin. The foot has a deep square socket, inside a cylindrical, tapering shaft. There is a collar around the mouth of the socket. The socket measures 11.2mm x 10.8mm at the opening and is 20mm deep. This square aperture would have held the iron pin, which has long since corroded away. The exterior of the shaft tapers down to the opposite terminal, to where it curves around and is attached to a flat circular plate. The curve of the shaft is joined to the plate at the top and the base of the plate is joined to the m…

This object was originally recorded as "Knife / dagger pommel" but the image but the image has been manipulated in order to make it clearer and it is now appears to show three views of a curved guard from a late Iron Age sword. It may be compared to an example from Llyn Cerrig Bach, Anglesey (Savory, 1976, Fig. 24.1). Other parallels exist on the PAS database (NMS-C4D772 and HESH-ECC623) and it is notable that the tops of many surviving Iron Age scabbards have the same curved profile as seen on this find (Jope, 2000, Plates 203-9)

An incomplete copper alloy, probable miniature terret ring of probable Late Iron Age to Early Roman dating (100 BC to 100 AD). The terret ring is of an unusual shape, being of a pointed oval shape. The sides have a circular cross section. A narrowed and recessed bar is present at the bottom of the terret ring. Circular collars are present at either side of the strap bar. The sides of the terret initially curve away from the strap bar, but then curve back together, where they join in a point. The top of this point exhibits an old, predepositional break. It measures 27.2 mm tall, …

A cast copper alloy fragment with enamelled decoration of probable late Iron Age or Roman date. The anchor-shaped fragment measures 21.8mm by 17.5mm by 3.2mm and weighs 3.97g. It is possibly part of a harness fitting or vessel mount. The enamel lies in three cells. Two are small and circular and sit at the end of the curving terminals. The other cell is larger and follows the overall shape of the object. In the centre of the curving section there is a circular blob of pale yellow enamel and in off-centre on the 'cross-bar' there is a blue spiral. The rest of the enamel appears to be ve…

A copper-alloy one piece brooch of La Tene III, late Iron Age to Roman date, probably a Nauheim derivative. The pin and bow are constructed from one piece of metal. The spring is of 4 coils. Much of the pin itself survives, and it projects downwards from the head to a length of 36 mm. After projecting at a right angle from the head, the bow is straight until the foot, when it curves back up towards the head and to the right (when brooch is facing). The catchplate is large and triangular in shape and is almost complete. The brooch measures 35.85 mm in length and is 10.2 mm wide at the h…
