The axehead tapers slightly before widening to a flared crescentic blade. The axehead has a mid orange patina with brown mottles. A complete pointed flint handaxe dating to the Paleolithic. Handaxes were manufactured in Britain from 500,000 BC to 40,000 BC. The tool has been bifacially worked with removals struck from either edge on both faces. There is one small oval area of original cortex on the ventral face measuring 16.5mm x 10.7mm. Cast copper alloy pin from a D-shaped buckle, possibly dating from the Anglo-Saxon period, c.AD 575-625. The pin has broken off from the base plate above the loop that would have wound around the pin bar. The broken end is circular in section and 8 mm in diameter and the pointed end has been chiselled from both sides into a rectangular edge that is 5 mm in length and 3 mm in width. An incomplete copper alloy Mount of Post-Medieval date (AD 1650-1750). The object is composed of a large open work plate in the form of highly stylised floral motif, similar in form to a pot of lilies which (as the finder comments) is a symbol of Annunciation within Medieval Christian symbolism. An incomplete, worn cast Early Mediaeval copper-alloy buckle plate of c. 8th - 9th century date. Description: The plate is a short rectangular in shape, measuring 22.04mm perpendicular to the hinged end and 23mm parallel to the hinged end. It is decorated with reticulate interlace on either side of the pin slot and bears a stylised figure in the centre. The figure is possibly male, but it is impossible to know who is depicted. An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy sword pommel dating to AD 550-670. The pommel is sub-triangular in plan, consisting of a central rectangular boss flanked by sub-rectangular wings; the latter have a flat base, their top edge converging towards the slightly obliquely angled terminal. The left wing and much of the reverse has been lost to old breaks.
