A fragment of copper-alloy casting waste of uncertain date. The casting waste is amorphous in form, but narrows to a wide rounded terminal at one end. A horizontal ridge is at its widest point, as well as a series of striations arranged both horizontally and longitudinally. Further, longer longitudinal striations are present at the narrowed end. The reverse exhibits a long rough moulding along its length, which birfurcates at the wider end. There is a green patina on the surface, as well as blackened areas. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy late Roman knife. The surviving section depicts a horses head. The neck is oval in cross section (8.5mm in length, 5.9mm wide) and narrows towards the throttle before expanding towards the mandible. A raised ridge depicting the mane runs along the back of the neck (11mm in length). The head projects outwards at a ninety degree angle with a broadly circular cross section. Die-stamped three piece copper alloy post medieval bi-convex hollow button with separate wire shank. It is 14.3mm in diameter and 8.8mm high (inclusive of loop, 14.6mm high). The reverse has two blow holes c.2mm in diameter and not in alignment. The front of the button has stamped decoration in the form of a groove just above the underside, flanking the edge. An incomplete iron helmet of post-medieval date probably a English civil war lobster pot helmet. The helmet is 200mm in surviving height and 210mm wide and 300mm in length. The helmet is formed of two plates joined in the centre with a raised comb. A number of incomplete rivets survive within the two plates, internally they have square sectioned washers (12.6mm wide). A complete pointed flint handaxe dating to the Paleolithic. Handaxes were manufactured in Britain from 500,000 BC to 40,000 BC. The tool has been bifacially worked with removals struck from either edge on both faces. There is one small oval area of original cortex on the ventral face measuring 16.5mm x 10.7mm. The handaxe is almost completely recorticated with iron staining suggesting it rolled in water for a considerable time. A Medieval (1270-1350) robust cast copper alloy mirror case, complete with the (loose) broken glass mirror inside. It measures 42.87mm in length, 31.40mm in diameter/ width and 8.39mm thick. A complete copper-alloy probable sword pommel probably dating to the medieval period. The object has a mainly mottled green patina but with smooth brown patches on the raised areas of one side. It is in the shape of a zoomorphic beast. The beast has raised ridges at its 'shoulders' and 'pelvis' with curving indentations between these. A complete Late Anglo-Saxon (Early Medieval) to early Post Medieval iron single bladed axehead, dating to c AD 850 - 1650. The surface is moderately corroded.
