An incomplete cast copper-alloy key dating to the medieval period. The key comprises a hollow, circular-sectioned stem, which widens towards the bit. The tip measures 10mm in diameter. The stem of the key is decorated with incised parallel bands, in groups of three. Much of the surface of the stem is missing, due to heavy corrosion and pitting. The bow is completely missing, due to the break. But the bit survives intact. There is a channel below the stem and the bit is only joins to it via a very narrow and short section of the bit. An incomplete cast copper alloy casket key of medieval date. The key has a round loop and a simple T-shaped bit. The shaft has an oval section and a small hole is present close to the end. The metal is a dark reddish-green colour and is worn. The key is 37.8mm long, 4.2mm thick and weighs 5.9g.
