Probably some kind of broken off furniture fitting, but possibly part of a shoe buckle though it seems a bit on the large side. Probably 17th- 18th century in either case. It is cast copper alloy with an applied finish, possibly silvering or tinning that has largely worn off. The zoomorphic decoration appears to be two opposed crested birds' heads. The length is 44mm, 30mm wide and the weight is 13.58g.

The object is a pointed oval plate of metal, one side of which continues as if to form a circular frame, with the oval against the edge, but the frame only survives for a few millimetres. White Metal Possible Metal working Debris. Two cast fragments of dense non-ferrous metal. The larger, of length 50mm, has sharp edges between three flat surfaces, though appears sheared and melted elsewhere. The smaller fragment, of length 35mm, shows the apparently compressed junction of layers of circa 5mm thickness, and external melting. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly suggests these may be shell splinters, though there is no firm evidence for military activity in the area. Suggested date: Unknown, 40-1800. Combined Weight: 76.15gms.

Copper alloy Buckle. Cast oval buckle with bevelled frame. Empty sockets suggest the loss of a central steel spindle. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly identifies this as a breeches' buckle. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1720-1790. Length: 22.4mm, Height: 19mm, Thickness (clear of spindle): 1.8mm, Weight: 2.94gms.

A fragment Early-medieval copper-alloy openwork Anglo-Scandinavian buckle. The two lower parallel projections broadly form a D shape in plan and would have formed the pin bar and loop. The right projection is incomplete, the recessed bar visible on the left projection would have connected just below the break. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy late Roman knife. The surviving section depicts a horses head. The neck is oval in cross section (8.5mm in length, 5.9mm wide) and narrows towards the throttle before expanding towards the mandible. A raised ridge depicting the mane runs along the back of the neck (11mm in length). The head projects outwards at a ninety degree angle with a broadly circular cross section. A complete cast high tin copper alloy sword pommel of early-medieval date. The pommel is ovoid in plan, hemispherical in elevation, and hollow on the underside. Both outer faces are decorated with triple raised arches extending outward slightly from the plain of the pommel. This feature is flanked by three double incised grooves. There are no obvious means of attachment though a small patch of material within the recess on the base of the object may represent the remains of cement used to fix the piece onto the tang. A circular copper alloy mount or possible pendant ornament of possible Early Early-Medieval date (c.500-750), with an openwork triskele design at the centre, each arm supported by a narrow projection from the surround. At the cetre of the triskele is a small circular depression. The object measures 64mm in diameter and varies in thickness between 0.8mm and 1.2mm, being thickest at the centre and thinning towards the edges, which are slightly convex from the front and concave from the back. The rivets are still in place though the plate on one side has a signicant amount missing. There appears to be remnant white metal finish, possibly silvering. The length is 34mm and the width 21mm.
