An incomplete Middle Iron Age copper alloy brooch, dating to c. 250-100 BC. Adams, 2013, Type 2Ba3. The pin is missing. The brooch has three sub-oval cone-shaped hollow bosses in a line, creating a scalloped edge on each side. Each boss has a setting in the apex for coral or enamel, now missing. At each end of the brooch is a transverse collar and an elongated knop similar to an acorn shape which extends from the base of the cone. The cones thus are raised up from the ends. A copper-alloy Medieval annular brooch dating to the period c.AD 1200-1300. The brooch is broadly ovate in plan, with a rectangular cross-section. A zoomorphic head projects from the middle point of each long edge, and curves around to point inwards. It is likely that these represent snakes. Overall, the fragment measures 48.6mm long, 32.1mm wide and 11.5mm thick. It weighs 18.6g. The surviving part of the headplate consists of the inner panel and small fragments of the second panel. The bow is almost completely intact, but nothing below it survives. The whole fragment is gilded but the the gilt has worn off the more exposed raised areas. At the break is a pair of scrolled side projections. The brooch has a rivet and a separate sheet fitting on the back. On the front are four concentric U-shaped ridges which enclose a central oval ridge at the upper edge of which the rivet is visible. The ridges are randomly decorated with punched decoration.
