Copper alloy balance arm fragment, as kindly identified by Kevin Leahy, correcting an initial erroneous identification by this reporter. Cast rectangular plate with a U-shaped tab projecting from either long edge and with a circular loop at one end, in all cases with drilled apertures of diameter 2.4mm. The loop at the end of the plate has four incised lines beside it, in the manner of a collar, while a saltire with a horizontal line below it is incised on the central part of the plate where one of the side loops projects. This motif appears casually drawn, though not as casually as a…

An integral circular attachment loop projects from a rectangular bar set centrally on the upper edge of the head. The bar is decorated with parallel though unevenly spaced vertical grooves and the loop has moulded decoration to the front face. The front to the wings have concaved central se…

An iron whittle tanged knife of Roman to Medieval date. The blade measures 93.02mm in length and the tang 13.17mm in length. The tang is incomplete. Cast copper unidentified object, possibly a Roman mirror handle dating from c. AD43-410. It is in very good condition without any corrisive products present on the surface. It is straight, with a circular cross-section and one forked end. There are very small rivet holes in the two sides of the fork, probably for attaching it to the actual mirror plate which would have also been made from copper-alloy, but highly polished. The handle is decorated with a simple egg-and-reel motif/mouldings.
