Object type: FABRICATOR
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint tool, probably a fabricator dating from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age (c. 3,300-1000 BC).
The tool is sub-triangular in section and sub-rectangular in plan with long, parallel slightly convex sides. It has a curved rounded point at one end and opposing semi-circular notches at the other. The tool is bi-facially worked with invasive, scaled, flaked removal on both sides creating a steep sided dorsal face and a slightly convex ventral face. The flint is pale grey with white milky patches and spots. There are small areas of iron staining on some arises.

Object type: LAUREL LEAF
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint laurel leaf dating to the early Neolithic period (c. 4000-2500 BC to 1200 BC). The object has been formed from a secondary flake of dark grey, semi-translucent flint. The remaining cortex is reddish-brown in colour. The tool is asymmetric, sub-lentoid in plan and roughly D-shaped in cross-section. The retouch across both faces is scaled and invasive becoming semi-abrupt to abrupt along cutting edges on opposing faces. The striking platform appears to be along the right hand edge of the ventral face with the ripples of percussion disappearing into the cortex.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: City of Peterborough
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint blade, probably dating to the early Neolithic period (4000-3501BC) or possibly to the early Mesolithic (10,000-7001BC).
Flint - translucent mid grey to orange in colour.
The blade is rectangular in plan, with some cortex remaining on the distal end and covering about a third of its dorsal face.
The bulb of percussion and striking platform are clearly visible on the proximal end of the flake. The bulb of percussion shows the signs of a bulbar scar.
The artefact has been made out of a secondary flake.
The blade bears retouch on one edge to create serration. The po…

A flint implement of probably Neolithic date (4000-2350 B.C). Flint, white, opaque, white/cream patina across whole surface. Roughly triangular in shape and triangular in cross-section. Tertiary flake, broken with striking platform and bulb of purcussion missing. Short, sub-parallel, abrupt retouch around distal end, extending, although shallower, part way along both sides. Flakes removed from dorsal face. Some damage along along the edges on the ventral side. 42.8 mm long. 28.7 mm wide and 6.3 mm thick. 9.15 g.

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Published
An arrowhead, formed from tertiary flint, that is either barbed and tanged with the barbs having broken off or was originally a leaf shaped arrowhead that has been reworked to have a tang at the middle of the lower edge. The arrowhead is bifacially worked with covering low angle parallel retouch on the ventral side. The other side has long to invasive low angle scaled retouch. The arefact has recorticated although this has been removed at the base of the arrowhead around the tang. It is uncertain whether this is a result of reworking or later depositional damage. Weight is 1.70g, leng…

An incomplete Neolithic flint implement (4000 BC-2351 BC).
This implement is sub-rectangular in plan and lozenge-shaped in cross-section throughout its length. In plan, one end is curved and asymmetrical. The opposite end has an oblique break with a flat surface. It is bi-facially worked overall except for a small area close to the centre on one face where there is a patch of grey cortex..
This implement, including the break, has an off-white and grey patina with numerous flecks of iron staining.

Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Leaf-shaped Neolithic flint knife or oval side scraper dating from c. 3000-2100BC.
This object appears to have been bifacially flaked suggesting that it is a knife. However, we do not have a side view for this object (only two images were provided by the finder) so we cannot be certain. It looks to have pressure flaking on dorsal side. It was probably formed on tertiary debitage rather than a deliberate stuck core.

Object type: FLAKED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete Neolithic flint flaked axehead, dating to the period BC 4000-2400. The axehead is sub-oval in plan as it is rounded at one terminal and tapers to a rounded point at the other. It is triangular in cross section. It has been struck from a black-grey flint with light brown inclusions, and retains c.10% cortex. Both faces exhibit covering, scaled, semi-abrupt flaking.
The flaked axehead measures 131.17mm in length, 44.60mm in width and 32.69mm in thickness.
Flaked axeheads are similar to the tranchet axeheads of the the Mesolithic, however they are more finely worked and …

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An almost complete unpolished flaked axe of Neolithic date and of Scandinavian type. The object has a convex cutting edge and straight parallel sides which taper to a squared off butt end. The cutting edge measures 64mm in width and is 3mm thick. A large oval flake has been removed from one face just above the cutting edge in recent times and is likely due to plough damage. Each face of the object has been worked with flaking.
The flaked sides taper evenly towards the butt end which is rectangular in cross-section. The butt end measures 25.5mm in width and is 22mm thick. The butt e…
