An almost complete unpolished flaked axe of Neolithic date and of Scandinavian type. The object has a convex cutting edge and straight parallel sides which taper to a squared off butt end. The cutting edge measures 64mm in width and is 3mm thick. A large oval flake has been removed from one face just above the cutting edge in recent times and is likely due to plough damage. Each face of the object has been worked with flaking. The flaked sides taper evenly towards the butt end which is rectangular in cross-section. The butt end measures 25.5mm in width and is 22mm thick. The butt e…

An incomplete polished stone axe dating from the Neolithic period, about 4000 BC - 2200 BC. Only the cutting end survives. It is made from polished tan coloured fine grained stone. It is sub-rectangular in plan and is faceted in cross-section. There is edge damage on the curved convex cutting edge and a large damaged area near the break, probably from plough damage. It is 78.7mm long, 58.9mm wide and 25.7mm thick. 190g. Kevin Leahy (National Finds Advisor) adds that the cracking and crazing visible in the images may suggest that the axe has been burnt. Also, the side facets suggest…

At the cutting edge it measures 39.62x9.07mm. The axehead is 67.81mm in length and weighs 66g.
