Cast flat circular lead seal matrix, probably originally a pendant, but now missing its suspension loop and one edge. The centre of the face of the matrix has an incised linear eight-pointed star (or cross with flaring arms) within a circle, surrounded by the legend: MARIO'TE:WCIOYS The latter half of the inscription is hard to decipher; the U-shaped line between the 'C' and the 'O' does not look like a separate letter 'I', but perhaps is ligated to the C. Looking at the style of the lettering, we would not expect a high level of literacy (Kevin Leahy pers comm). This i…

Copper alloy cast Georgian fob seal probably dating between 1714 to 1830AD. The fob is intact apart from the seal inlay and would have originally been gilded. The openwork casting consists of a suspension ring extending to two connected crescents bearing laurel-leaf detailing, the lower ends of which are attached to the base which comprises a plain border enclosing a dished panel. On the underside would have been an intaglio now missing possibly made of glass. These fobs were often gilt-bronze of a style popular with the gentry of the Georgian age, usually displaying a classical bust …

The face of the seal matrix is badly worn and infilled with earth rendering it illegible. Seals of this shape became popular in the 13th century therfore this seal most probably dates from this period. The metal has a mid greenish-brown patina and is worn. The seal matrix is 23.2mm long, 16.9mm wide and weighs 4.9g. Since the initial identification and recording of this object at the Bridlington Quay Metal Dete…

A lead medieval seal matrix, flat with a looped lug on the reverse (now squashed). Pointed oval, 35.1 mm x 21.8mm. Lug at 12 o'clock position. The central motif is a tall and thin stylised fleur de lys. The inscription reads + S' AVICE MARSCAL (Seal of Avice Marshall). The M is rather unusual, looking a bit like an E on its side. is reading is rather uncertain due to the level of corrosion on the matrix and the way in which the letters have been drawn. It is a personal seal and features a name, rather than a motto. 13th century.

Vesica shaped lead object with faceted sides, one face plain the bears traces of raised decoration. This object was described as the blank for a seal matrix but some caution must be exercised, in addition to the lack of an inscription, a lug and fleur-de-lys on the back it should be noted that this object is smaller than any of the other lead matrices recorded by the Scheme, most having a length of around 30mm, not the 25.2mm seen here.
