A complete Neolithic flint flaked axehead, dating to the period BC 4000-2400. The axehead is sub-oval in plan as it is rounded at one terminal and tapers to a rounded point at the other. It is triangular in cross section. It has been struck from a black-grey flint with light brown inclusions, and retains c.10% cortex. Both faces exhibit covering, scaled, semi-abrupt flaking. The flaked axehead measures 131.17mm in length, 44.60mm in width and 32.69mm in thickness. A flint tranchet axehead or pick of Neolithic date, about 4000 BC - 2500 BC. It is formed on mid to light grey flint. It is sub-rectangular in plan with one rounded end (the cutting edge) and slightly convex sides. It is a thick asymetrical oval in section, one face being shallower than the other. Both sides are covered with large flaked removals, leaving no cortex. The butt is narrow (19mm wide and 5.3mm thick) and fairly square. The cuttin edge is convex and is 33.5mm wide and 5mm thick. An incomplete knapped lithic axehead of Neolithic date (c.4000 BC - 2200 BC). The axehead is broken and may have been reused as a scraper. When complete the object would have been ovate in both plan and section though around half of the axehead is now missing due to a transverse break. The axehead has been bifacially flaked using covering scaled low angle flaking. Short scaled semi-abrupt retouch is visible along the distal edge suggesting the object may have been repurposed as a scraper after breaking. The flint is an off-white patchy colour.
