Cast gilded silver miniature square-headed brooch. The head bears a central motif of three nested rectangles enclosing a horizontal rib, with an outer border of closely juxtaposed stamped circles of diameter 1mm. A curved bow springs from the innermost of the nested rectangles, and has a central longitudinal rib flanked by paired grooves. A U-shaped lug on the back retains the corroded stub of an iron pin. An incomplete probable silver-gilt Thealby brooch of Roman date. The head of the brooch is comprised of rectangular wings the reverse of which act as a double lug hinge mechanism for the pin. The pin no longer remains and patches of copper corrosion mark the remains of the axis bar within the lugs. An integral circular attachment loop projects from a rectangular bar set centrally on the upper edge of the head. Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the brooch fragment of 89% with copper, lead, gold and tin also detected; it weighs 3.51 grams. The fragment consists of the foot-plate of a miniature square-headed brooch; height, 35mm (surviving); width, 24mm. In the centre is a hollow-sided, lozenge-shaped panel enclosed by a border ridge, which is asymmetrically decorated with zoomorphic elements of Salin's Style I including two limbs and a ribbon-like body. Silver ring brooch, now broken but substantially complete. The main section is 2.0mm in diameter expanding at four points to form 4.5m diameter beads. Between these were three lozenge shaped bezels (one now missing) decorated with four small diamonds forming geometric flowers, possibly set against a niello cross. Original diameter c. 30.0mm.
