Anglo-Scandinavian iron scythe 8th/12th century part of an extensive collection from a known settlement. Side laid from top. The length is 408mm, width 41.3mm max, thickness of back of blade 8.6mm, tang is turned to give an offset 23.8mm section of the tang is square and thickens and is 13.2mm.

Anglo-Scandinavian iron scythe 8th/12th century AD part of an extensive collection from a known settlement discovered in1975. Side laid from top. The length is 378mm, width 46.4mm, length of tang 98.6mm, offset on tang (where bent) 15.5mm, blade is flat faced wedge shaped in section, thickness of tang is 9.1mm and width at the back is 9.2mm.

An iron spear, weighing 227g. The spear comprises three elements. It has a square sectioned, tapering tang which would have fitted into a shaft. This has been hammered from the middle circular sectioned part of the spear. The spear head is leaf-shaped with a raised ridge running down either side. The tip is broken. It is probably a spearhead brought to this country from India or Africa. A search through the usual literature on spearhead found no British parallel for the tanged shaft but there was an African weapon with similar shaped blades and with bindings around their shafts …

A post medieval - Modern iron caulking iron (17th - 20th century). The tool has a handle with a circular cross-section (diameter: 11.5mm) that then flattens and expands to form the blade (width: 48mm). The blade has a slight curve in the lower half. The opposite end of the handle also expands to form the rounded, flattened terminal (diameter: 29.5mm). There are no makers marks visible on the chisel. An iron object, probably a fragment of a knife handle. The object shows signs of moulded decoration, in the form of possibly two opposing animal heads, facing in opposite directions. The heads have open mouths. There is evidence of an iron tang encased within the mouldings. The object is very worn and is a mid reddish-brown colour. It is probably Roman in date. Roman iron spearhead with flame-shaped blade, broken in two part: blade and socket. The flame-shaped blade has a lozenge cross-section while the socket has a circular cross-section. It is in a good condition.

Iron tool, blade expanded and crescentic, 77mm wide, section flat. Above this the section narrows, to form a waist, before expanding to a 38mm diameter cylindrical section the end of which narrows to from a hammer like face. This object is best interpreted as a blacksmith's 'hot set' a chisel like tool which was used to cut hot metal at the forge.
