The projecting part has a medial sub-circular hole probably for attachment or suspension. The central strip is decorated in ribbon interlace and is flanked on each side by two openwork slots in tandem along its length, each bounded on the outside by flat integral loops formed by confronted beasts' heads or possibly Ringerike-based fronds that join in the centre of each loop, forming a slight dip to the exterior…

A complete copper alloy box or harness mount, possibly of later Early Medieval date (940-1066 AD). The mount is quatrefoil in shape, with four trefoil shaped pierced lobes set around a circular base. This is concave on the reverse, creating a depression approximately 14mm deep. The centre of the mount is formed into the head of a beast, possibly a mastiff type dog or bear, but also possibly reminiscent of the semi-feline beasts seen on Borre metalwork. This latter suggestion is given due to the exaggeratedly large eyes, measuring 9.4mm across, which are almond shaped. A similar exa…

There are two visible plates connected by a pin, though it is clear from the break point at the narrowest end that there were originally two pins and it is at this weak point it has snapped. some compressed dried soil obscures a view of the inside. Copper alloy object, kindly identified as part of a pistol or musket of English manufacture by Kevin Leahy. Kevin comments as follows: 'I think I know what this is: the long lug with a pin through it is typical of the way that English guns were fixed together and I think that what you've got is a bit of trigger guard from a flintlock or percussion gun'. Cast curved plate with U-shaped ends, one broader than the other, and with a long U-shaped lug projecting from its concave side.
