Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete iron object of uncertain date. The object is roughly oval in plan and flat in profile. The object may have been sharpened at one end so could be the remains of a blade. The possibly sharpened end is slightly flattened, whilst the opposite end tapers and is rounded off. The object could also represent spillage from metalworking. It has mid-green copper alloy staining and shows signs of corrosion on both faces.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 79.19mm in length, 31.47mm in width, 6.94mm in thickness and 67.72g in weight.

Object type: CANNON BALL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast iron Post Medieval cannon ball, probably dating to circa AD 1500 - 1700. The object is spherical in shape with pitting and corrosion visible on the surface. The cannon ball has an orange coloured patina across its surfaces. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail and full diameter and weight.
The diameter and weight suggest that the type of cannon used to fire the cannon ball may have been the Demi-Culverin. This cannon had a 4 inch bore and fired a ball weighing 9.5 lb (4309 g).

A copper alloy unidentified object, possibly dating to the Medieval period.
The object comprises a broadly rectangular body, with a rectangular cross section, with three internally cast projections extending sideways from one edge. The centrally placed projection is triangular in plan, while those situated at each terminal are semi-circular in plan with a circular perforation possibly for attachment. Object type: SCABBARD
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete knife scabbard chape, probably from an eating set, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 - AD 1600).
The finial involves a pointed knob at the end, which leads to a circular protrusion with ring and dot knops at the cardinal points. Followed by a a twisted column before another circular protrusion, again with ring and dot knops at the cardinal points, which then leads into two joined triangular chapes, the top one of which is smaller than the bottom. The smaller chape may have housed a pricker, the larger chape would have housed the knife end.

An incomplete copper alloy artefact of uncertain identification and function, possibly a sword pommel of Early Medieval to Medieval dating (AD 700 to AD 1500).
The artefact is sub cuboid in shape. A circular perforation (hole) is present in the base, with an internal diameter of 8.3 mm. A sub circular flat border is present around this perforation. Possible arms extend to either side. These arms curve upwards, with a recurved tip. The top of this possible sword pommel extends with these curvilinear shapes and it has been folded over with the tip touching the base.

An incomplete incomplete finial from a silver tea pot lid, of Late Georgian to Victorian dating (AD 1750s to AD 1900s)
Approximately 90% of the finial is present, with the base and most of the body present. The top is incomplete.
The finial originally had a biconvex body with facetted sides (creating a hexagonal shape), with a similar hexagonal base. It was originally hollow, but now contains soil from the burial environment. A casting seam is present around the middle of the body. The base appears to be have been made from a separate piece of probable silver and soldered to the…

County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper-alloy mount or brooch. Early medieval. Probably Irish. Mass: 12.3g; length: 26.0mm; width: 25.2mm; depth: 8.9mm. The mount is square in plan with a raised border projecting to the front and reverse which is thickest at the corners. The front of the object is decorated with fine raised ribs forming a central square with a pointed-oval design at each corner. The reserved fields outside the inner square are decorated with fine cross-cross ribs and curves. Due to the poor surface of the object - which has a heavy covering of green corrosion products - it is unclear if there is…
