Pin of possible Roman date, The head is globular with flattened upper and lower faces, it is seated centrally on the shank which has three grooves as decoration below the head. The shank then tapers, undecorated to a blunt point and is slightly bent at the mid-point at c. 170°. The pin has a brown/green patina.
Dr Kevin Leahy writes: While mouldings beneath the heads is a feature of Middle Anglo-Saxon pins the multiple mouldings/grooves on this example are more a feature of Roman pins as is its tapering shank. On balance it is best assigned to the Roman period.
