An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval mount. The symmetrical mount has a hollow lozenge shaped central section, which is broken at one end. The surviving end has a flat terminal in the form of a blunt point across a figure of eight moulding. Underneath the terminal is an integral but incomplete pointed lug. Copper alloy with gilding mount fragment. Cast flat backed plate in the form of the head of a bird with curving bill, probably one of a symetrically addorsed pair, as adduced by ragged broken edges behind the body. An eye is defined naturalistically in relief, as is a nostril at the top of the beak, but the neck and upper body afford fields for curvilinear interlaced ornament, each strand of which comprises paired ridges highlighted by deeply incised (or appearing thus) gutters between them. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly identifies this piece as of Salin Style 2, and as such an indication of …

Probably a cast copper alloy Early Medieval mount or strap end. The irregular tri-lobed plate has an integral lug at one end, which is turned ninety degrees to the plate, and is perorated off-centre. The plate is undecorated and has two holes. While no parallels come to mind for this piece, its form resembles that of a series of 11th century strap ends, which are also asymmetrical and decorated in Ringerike style. The perforated lug is also very similar. The length is 38.0mm, the width is 20.6mm, the thickness of the plate is 5.8mm and the weight is 14.60g.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy Medieval Mount. The rectangular panel is decorated with two vertical rows of incised chevrons with a thick plain band between them. The decoration has traces of gilding surviving on the edges of the chevrons. At the back of the panel is an integral circular sectioned rivet. Cast copper alloy strap mound, bar shaped with a central domed boss (solid, not hollow cast). Linked to this by short bars are two perforated bosses, one still containing a rivet, by which the mount was attached to a strap. In London mounts similar to this, but with a hole through the central boss, were found in contexts dated to 1150-1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 213, Fig. 134, Nos. 1154, 1157, 1158).

Cast copper alloy mount, one end flattened and folded back to from a loop through which is a rivet. At the other end is a second, larger rivet by which the mount was secured to the strap. Between these two elements is a lozenge shaped panel bearing a cross (or a fleur) set within an incised lozenge. These are inlaid with blue and red enamel. Mounts of this type may have been used to secure purses or attachment loops to belts (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 219-224, Fig. 140). In London these objects were dated to 1350-1450.

A cast copper alloy mount, probably of Medieval date. The flat plate is in the form of a cross Fleuree with trefoil terminals. The lateral lobe from the end of one arm is broken. This object is difficult to interpret, as there are no obvious signs of attachment. It was considered that it could come from a monumental brass but its section it uneven, tapering from 3.1mm in the centre to 2.4mm at the ends of the arms. The length is 50.0mm, the width is 50.4mm and the weight is 18.85g.

Copper alloy mount fragment. Small thin fragment, possibly from a mount of cross-shaped form with concave sides to its arms, retaining interlace strap-work with relict gilding on one side, with plain borders, one lightly convex and the other concave. Lightly bent, broken along one edge. Kevin Leahy kindly comments as follows: 'I think that this piece represents a fragment decorated in what the Staffordshire Hoard report called the 'Early Insular Style' which was dated to c. 630-660. The matting-link interlace formed from three strands is characteristic of what was, in the Staffs. Hoar…

Copper alloy Mount. Cast rectangular plate with three rivet holes at one end; two occupied by rivets of diameter 1.8mm which are clenched over at the back of the plate; the central hole appears countersunk, of diameter 2mm, and perhaps was never used. The mid point of the plate is ridged, and its other end is also thickened with a gutter adjacent to this on the back. Decoration comprises incised triangles either side of the central ridge, filled with groups of two or three round or oval punchmarks. An identification as a fragment from scale armour was offered by the finder, on the …
