A complete lead alloy Post Medieval musket ball. The large spherical musket ball still has the integral spur attached. The diameter of the ball is 18.0mm, which is equivalent to the 0.750 inch calibre of the 'Brown Bess' musket that was used by the British Army c. 1680-1853.The diameter is 18.3mm, the length with spur is 25.6mm and the weight is 39.77g.

A slightly crushed Medieval lead-alloy bell. The crushed ball-shaped bell has an integral D-shaped attachment loop. The base of the bell is made up of four petal like flaps and a pebble found inside the bell may have been the clapper. The body is decorated with a pattern of cast, raised bands representing ribbons, each 4mm wide and filled with raised transverse lines. The diameter is 17.0mm, the length is 21.0mm and the weight is 6.40g. Metal analysis done by the finder using the Phi-Rho-Z method shows that bell is an alloy of 95.01% lead and 4.99% copper. Probably a cast lead disc pendant, of Post Medieval date. The circular disc is blank on the reverse except for a narrow incised transverse line. The front face is decorated in relief with a pseudo-nummular design. In the centre is an asymmetrical cross-potent with a central boss. In the arms of the cross are four heart-shaped devices made up of two strands. Around the edge of the disc is a fictitious inscription. A hole has been drilled through the disc leaving a burr on both sides. The diameter of the disc is 25.4mm, the thickness is 2.3mm and the weight is 18.33g.

An interesting complete lead alloy object of a modern date. The object is in the form of two intertwined human figures, which were cast separately. The larger figure has one arm around the other’s waist; the other arm is bent around and raised to the face of its partner. The smaller figure has one arm around the waist of her partner and the other on his shoulders. Each of the figures has long, tendril-like legs, which are interlaced. The length of the object is 40.1mm, the width is 15.2mm, the thickness is 14.4mm and the weight is 32.29g.

A complete cast Medieval lead weight. The shield-shaped weight has a rectangular hole near the top. On the front is a figure of a lion rampant in relief and the back is plain. Around the edge are three notches, which look as if they were cut by a blow. The length is 38.7mm, the width is 31.1mm, the thickness is 7.7mm and the weight is 55.81g.

A Modern lead bullet. The cylindrical shaped bullet has a hollow base and five grooves around the body. The diameter of the bullet s 15.1mm which is 0.594 inches, suggesting that the bullet was made for the 0.577 Enfield rifle which was introduced in 1853. Some expansion may have occurred on firing. The length of the bullet is 25.7mm and the weight is 31.02g.

Lead token, the central area of one face bearing three raised horizontal bands one edge of which is notches (labels). Above this is a W motif in the angles of which are dots. A fragment from a cast lead-alloy Early Medieval Strap End. The rounded terminal of the tongue shaped front plate is all that survives of the strap end. The fragment is decorated in Winchester style with two birds facing each other, conjoined at the beak. Only the heads and part of the bodies are depicted into the rounded terminal edge and the rest of the design is missing. The surviving length is 17.0mm, the width is 15.2mm and the weight is 1.96g. A cast lead alloy nummular brooch. The flat circular brooch is quite worn and slightly misshapen. The brooch appears to imitate the reverse of an eleventh century coin. Around the outer edge are traces of a beaded border, which encloses a inscription. All that remains of the blundered inscription are the letters []N/D[]. In the centre is a short voided cross. The back of the brooch has two incomplete pierced lugs to secure the pin and a folded over catchplate. Although the pin is missing, a trace of iron corrosion around one of the lugs suggests that it once had an iron pin. The survi…
