A cast copper alloy unidentified object of unknown date. The slightly curved sub-rectangular arm is oval in section. One end tapers to a blunt point and the other end is flat and bears an oval panel motif standing in relief. The panel is divided into two fields by raised ribs, one field is D-shaped and the other appears to be a letter ‘K’ with two linked angled arms. Just below the D-shaped area, the side of the object bears a transverse notch. The function and date of this object are unknown. An incomplete cast copper alloy decorated fragment. The fragment is triangular in shape, which suggests that it may be the corner of an unidentified object. It is also slightly convex. The fragment is highly decorative. Around the edge of the fragment is an incised border. In the corner, cutting through the border is an incised oval with a smaller oval in the centre. An incomplete cast copper-alloy mount. The mount is imitating many qualities of a brooch, but is definitely not a brooch. Kevin comments: '...this is a 'plough pebble' which had been hammered into the sole plate of a wooden plough. The object type needs to be PLOUGH with plough pebble in the classification. I'd suggest a date of c. 800 to 1400AD. These are important, Niall Brady is working on them'. White Metal Possible Metal working Debris. Two cast fragments of dense non-ferrous metal. The larger, of length 50mm, has sharp edges between three flat surfaces, though appears sheared and melted elsewhere. The smaller fragment, of length 35mm, shows the apparently compressed junction of layers of circa 5mm thickness, and external melting. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly suggests these may be shell splinters, though there is no firm evidence for military activity in the area. Suggested date: Unknown, 40-1800. Combined Weight: 76.15gms.
