Copper alloy Buckle. Cast oval buckle with bevelled frame. Empty sockets suggest the loss of a central steel spindle. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly identifies this as a breeches' buckle. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1720-1790. Length: 22.4mm, Height: 19mm, Thickness (clear of spindle): 1.8mm, Weight: 2.94gms.

A fragment of a late seventeenth or eighteenth century two part, cast copper alloy buckle frame. The surviving part is in the form of a human head, possibly a king's head. The head is facing and has a curved hand on his head which has three grooves and may be the band of a crown. Above the band, is a triangular projection at end with a square pellet on, which may in fact be the side fleurs of the crown. There is a casting spur on the curved side of the frame and the strap bar is off set. Wrapped around the bar is a copper alloy wire pin. The length is 17.3mm, the width is 14.6mm, the thickness is 4.3mm and the weight is 3.31g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle. The asymmetrical double loop buckle frame has a rectangular loop and a rounded loop. It is decorated with transverse grooved on the outer edge of the rectangular loop and an incomplete knob on the outer edge of the rounded loop. There is a looped knob on either side of the narrowed strap bar and the pin is missing. The length is 20.9mm, the width is 14.4mm, the thickness is 1.9mm and the weight is 1.63g.

A cast copper alloy Medieval annular buckle. The circular buckle frame is slight concave at the back and flat on the front. Wrapped around the central integral bar is copper alloy sheet pin. Cast integrally with the ring, on one side of the frame, is a ā€˜Dā€™ sectioned bar with a small hemispherical terminal. The diameter is 25.9mm, the thickness is 2.3mm, the length of the bar is 13.9mm and the weight is 4.87g.

An incomplete and slightly worn cast copper alloy medieval buckle plate. The rectangular plate bears the figure of a lion facing right with its tail curved over its back. The plate expands from 17.0mm at the outer edge of the plate which is recessed for the pin to 19.0mm at the inside edge. There are two rivets at the outer edge and the back is plain. There are no signs of gilding or enamel. The length is 30.9mm, the width varies between 17.0mm to 19.0mm, the thickness is 2.1mm and the weight is 6.56g.

An almost complete cast copper alloy Medieval buckle and plate. The single loop oval buckle frame has an expanded outer edge with a pin rest and a narrowed and offset strap bar. Looped around the strap bar is a cast copper alloy pin. The rectangular copper alloy buckle plate is folded and recessed for the strap bar and has a slot for the pin. The plate has four of the five remaining copper alloy rivets. The back of the plate is lozenge shaped and between the plates is a surviving fragment of leather. The length is 44.9mm, the width is 24.3mm and the weight is 9.14g.

A small complete copper alloy Medieval buckle and plate. The single loop cast oval frame has an offset bar and a notch for the pin on the outer edge of the frame. The folded rectangular copper alloy sheet plate is recessed for the frame and has a slot for the copper alloy wire pin. The plate is secured by a single copper alloy rivet at the inside edge of the plate. Around the edges of the plate is a solid line bordered on either side by a line of chip marks. The length is 31.3mm, the width is 15.1mm, the thickness is 2.7mm and the weight is 2.68g.

On either end of the strap bar is a pointed knop. The frames are decorated with billeted lines that surround a plant motif. An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval double loop buckle frame. The two asymmetrical conjoined frames include a D-shaped loop with two knops and a rectangular loop a small knop at each end and four mouldings. The strap bar is narrowed with a knop on both ends and has traces of iron corrosion from the missing pin. The surface of the frame is silvery which suggests that it has been tinned. The length is 23.7mm, the width is 18.8mm, the thickness is 2.6mm and the weight is 29.7mm.

The incomplete simple folded plate, was probably originally D-shaped and is recessed for the frame and has a slot for the pin. In the centre is a single copper alloy rivet. The surviving length is 25.1mm, the width is 23.9mm, the thickness is 2.6mm and the weight is 3.47g.

Cast copper alloy buckle with a sheet metal plate, D-shaped buckle with moulded decoration, offset narrowed bar and a central notch for the pin, long trapezoid buckle plate secured by three rivets, incised line around the edge, traces of gilding all over. The lower plate is significantly smaller that the front. In London a buckle of this form was found in a context dated to 1270-1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 76, Fig. 46 No. 314)
