Description:
A modern silver jewellery item, probably a head- or chest-ornament and dating to the nineteenth century. The ornament is circular with one projecting knop at the top and three projecting loops at the bottom. The projecting hooks are integral. Their rivet heads are circular with a single raised dome in the centre, surrounded by a concentric ring, the shafts project downwards and curve to the underside of the chatelaine where they reattach at the rear. The upper knop is much thicker than the lower loops, its rivet head replicates the lower hooks decoration.

The object is composed of a large open work plate in the form of highly stylised floral motif, similar in form to a pot of lilies which (as the finder comments) is a symbol of Annunciation within Medieval Christian symbolism. A complete knapped probable gunflint blank from which gunflints for flintlock muskets of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1900, could be produced.
Description: The flint is broadly rectangular in plan and resembles a stretched pillow shaped gunflint. with tapering sides and a trapezoidal cross-section. There is significant conchoidal rippling on the ventral side. The flint is dark grey with some mottled lighter areas. A probable accidental flake has been removed from the top edge.

A gilded lead horse harness pendant of post medieval date (c. 1700 - c.1800). It is in the form of an eight petalled flower, the lobate petals aranged around a cetral boss. Traces of gilding remain on all petals. The rear surface is flat and undecorated. There is a corroded iron pin 41 mm in length apparantly soldered as a replacement for the original suspension loop.

A cast iron Post Medieval cannon ball, probably dating to circa AD 1500 - 1700. The object is spherical in shape with pitting and corrosion visible on the surface. The cannon ball has an orange coloured patina across its surfaces. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail and full diameter and weight.
The diameter and weight suggest that the type of cannon used to fire the cannon ball may have been the Demi-Culverin. This cannon had a 4 inch bore and fired a ball weighing 9.5 lb (4309 g).

A late Medieval to middle Post-Medieval copper-alloy sword pommel. The open end has a flat blunt edge allowing the artefact to be placed standing unsupported on a flat surface. It has a variable thickness ranging from 0.9mm to 3.5mm at this open end. The artefact is an elliptical-cylindrical, measuring 22.5mm x 16.4mm at the open end, with a closed domed apex. At the centre of the domed end is a sub-rectangular aperture measuring 5.4mm x 2.2mm at the narrower end and 2.5mm at the wider end. Post Medieval copper alloy, asymmetric, buckle frame, dating from AD1550-1700. The frame is sub-rectangular, with one square loop and the other semi-circular, separated by an integral bar. The underside of the frame is flat and the inner and outer edges of the upper side are bevelled On the bar are the remains of what appears to have been an iron pin, now missing. Similar buckles are shown by Whitehead, 2003, 90-91, where a date of c. 1550-1700 a date that seems to fit with other evidence. Length 33.6mm, Width 25.0mm, Thickness 2.3mm, Masss 4.85g.

Incomplete cast tin replica of a devotional cruciform pendant, missing its fourth arm which was attached to a suspension loop. Each of the three surviving arms have a spherical knop at the terminus that is 5 mm in diameter. The flat disc or roundel that forms the centre of the cross is 11 mm in diameter and is very pitted but appears to have two incised letters on each face within a circular border that is 1 mm in from the edge. A retouched tertiary gun flint dating from the 17th century AD through to the present. This piece of flint has a sub-rectangular shape and sub-trapezoidal cross-section. The largest surface, or back of the flint, has a slight concave curve This gun flint was it was found within a few miles of a known Napolionic prisoner of war camp dating from AD 1797. Copper alloy unidentified object. Cast object, flat on one flat side and with a prominent convex drum-shaped feature on the other, which is elsewhere flat with a median thickness of c.2.8mm. Kevin Leahy kindly suggests this may be a post-medieval hinge, as the lack of pin gear and drum shaped feature disqualify it from being an Early Anglo-Saxon brooch.

The object is a tapering strip of copper alloy (D shaped in section) which has been bent round to for a broadly circular shape (possibly caused by . Both ends of the object terminate in old, abraded breaks. There is no decoration on either surface of the object.
The metal is a dark brown in colour with a slightly pitted surface patina.

There is a small copper-alloy piece of metalwork integrated into one of the larger surfaces but it is unclear what it was primary to insertation into the weight.
Kevin Leahy (pers. comm.) adds that it does not fit into the Danish module as it does resemble some of the weights on which Dave Haldenby and Jane Kershaw are working.

The circular vertical perforation has a diameter of 1.0mm.
Discussion: Beads of this type can be difficult to date but it is most likely to be of late Post-Medieval date. See NCL-A6B1E7.

An incomplete copper alloy gilt pin of probable Post-Medieval date (c.1500-1600), missing part of the pin shank. It measures 49.80mm in length and weighs 2.84g.
The head is bi-conical and oval in cross-section, with a median rib and another rib encircling the flattened (circular) top. A pair of such ribs encircle the join with the shaft (the upper of which is slightly misaligned). The head measures 15.97x12.03x7.62mm and is rather squashed on one side. It retains much of its original gilding and has a small hole (from damage) on either face.

Post medieval cast copper alloy lid from a set of boxed trade weights. It is decorated with a series of incised or impressed geometric circles, similar to the weights it would original have closed on. The hinge projection has trapped part of the main vessel's hinge, and the peg for the latch remains intact opposite. The top is also impressed with 'II' near the hinge. It probably dates between c1500 and c1700, but some people are suggesting earlier dates.
The length across the hinge is 49mm, main diameter is 36mm, and the weight is 13.84g.

Half of a post medieval cast copper alloy ring. The thicker raised area has been impressed with a simple saltire decoration with three lines forming triangles at each end of the pattern. These rings are hard to date but possibly c1600 to c1800. It is also worth noting that rings with similar patterns were produced during the Roman occupation, though the profile of this ring suggests a post medieval date.

The suspension loop is intact, projecting from the top edge at right angles to the plane of the plate, and the artefact is apparently in fair condition. Perhaps a Post Medieval silver sixpence of William III (1694-1702). The coin may have originally had a double bend in it and part of the flan may have been deliberately smoothed erasing the design. Coins treated in this way are thought to be 'love tokens. The coin is inscribed with the letters NT perhaps the initials of the owner or recipient of the coin. The diameter is 16mm, and the weight is 1.32g.

Ring made from plaited or interwoven silver wire. Each strand of the plait consists of seven parallel strands of silver wire, woven under and over each other to form a diagonal pattern. At the top and bottom these are then curved round and woven back up and down, so that the plait is made up of a single length of multi-strand wire. The ring is not perfectly cylindrical. An incomplete post-medieval iron knife with probably a bone handle. The whittle-tang iron blade is incomplete and survives in a very corroded and fragmentary state. The surviving length of the blade is 40.0mm and the tip is missing. The sub-rectangular handle, is rectangular in section and expands slightly from the knife blade. A sheet copper alloy strap mount in the form of a cross.
The mount has been pressed from a single thin sheet of copper alloy. There is a central boss from which four triangular arms extend. The reverse is repousé. The arms are joined together down a circular band, which feature further detail in the form of two pellets to each of the four quarters. The four triangular arms are further decorated by raised triangular plates. The metal is a mid reddish-brown colour. This mount is post-medieval in date.
