Post Medieval copper alloy, asymmetric, buckle frame, dating from AD1550-1700. The frame is sub-rectangular, with one square loop and the other semi-circular, separated by an integral bar. The underside of the frame is flat and the inner and outer edges of the upper side are bevelled On the bar are the remains of what appears to have been an iron pin, now missing. Similar buckles are shown by Whitehead, 2003, 90-91, where a date of c. 1550-1700 a date that seems to fit with other evidence. Length 33.6mm, Width 25.0mm, Thickness 2.3mm, Masss 4.85g.

A small light weight copper alloy buckle with pin missing probably early to late Post-Medieval 1500 to 1750AD. Probably from a of fine strap, its size and lightness suggest that it could come from a spur strap possibly from a dress spur. During the 14th and 15th centuries similar, though generally larger, objects are thought to have been used as single loop strap tensioners. The length is 27mm, the width is 13mm and the depth is 1.5mm and it weighs 1.34g

Copper alloy Buckle. Cast oval buckle with bevelled frame. Empty sockets suggest the loss of a central steel spindle. Dr Kevin Leahy kindly identifies this as a breeches' buckle. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1720-1790. Length: 22.4mm, Height: 19mm, Thickness (clear of spindle): 1.8mm, Weight: 2.94gms.

Post Medieval cast copper-alloy asymmetrical buckle frame with double pronged pin dating1575 to 1700 AD. The frame has one trapezoid and one D shaped loop. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed. The frame is raised and flattened across the front of the upper and lower sides. Cast copper alloy trapezoidal shoe or knee buckle with a drilled frame for a separate spindle dating 1660 to 1729 AD. The frame has concave sides in plan and a flat base and a convex profile with a bevelled internal edge. The pin bar is recessed from the rest of the frame and still holds the remains of the iron pin and stud or anchor chape (the terminal is missing so it cannot be determined which one). Whitehead (1996) illustrates similar examples on page 99, Nos.616 & 625, which are dated from c.1660-1720. Read (1988) illustrates another example on page 145, No.944, which is dated …

A cast copper alloy buckle. The buckle is oval with a transverse integral bar. Attached to this is a wrap around pin. Both are heavily corroded. The frame is pitted and also corroded. The metal is a mid greyish-green colour. This buckle is post-medieval in date.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle. The asymmetrical double loop buckle frame has a rectangular loop and a rounded loop. It is decorated with transverse grooved on the outer edge of the rectangular loop and an incomplete knob on the outer edge of the rounded loop. There is a looped knob on either side of the narrowed strap bar and the pin is missing. The length is 20.9mm, the width is 14.4mm, the thickness is 1.9mm and the weight is 1.63g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval double loop buckle frame. The conjoined oval hollow backed frames have a narrow, round sectioned strap bar. On either end of the strap bar is a pointed knop. The frames are decorated with billeted lines that surround a plant motif. The length is 36.9mm, the width is 28.9mm, the thickness is 3.5mm and the weight is 7.40g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval double loop buckle frame. The two asymmetrical conjoined frames include a D-shaped loop with two knops and a rectangular loop a small knop at each end and four mouldings. The strap bar is narrowed with a knop on both ends and has traces of iron corrosion from the missing pin. The surface of the frame is silvery which suggests that it has been tinned. The length is 23.7mm, the width is 18.8mm, the thickness is 2.6mm and the weight is 29.7mm.
