Incomplete cast lead spherical vessel with a protruding cylindrical spout, about 8 mm in diameter, that might have also been used as a handle. This might be a miniature lead vessel, representing a larger copper alloy cauldron or round-bottomed vessel, and was probably used as a toy. A variety of miniature lead-alloy kitchen items are known from the 16th to the 18th century (Egan, 1988, 2). The upper edge of the vessel is torn and uneven, so it is difficult to say whether there was another handle or whether this might be a jug with a spout. It may just be the product of melting lead on…

A fragment of thick lead sheeting, measuring 69.15x56.85x5.19mm and weighing 106.01g. To the reverse it is plain but to the other face, the top two thirds are taken up with a panel of lettering - the remanants of an A possibly, R or E and a ligated C or O and H. The stem of the first leg of the H continues vertically to the break, which appears to be relatively recent. The opposite edge appears complete. The break at the A has been cut, but is patinated. This cut is vertical but steps inward for the top third of the object. The break on the opposite side is jagged and slightly rough s…

Cast lead object, apparently with a thin section, its surface covered with fine ribs or grooves (as this object can now only be described from the drawing some features are open to doubt). It was described as the 'Lower half of a lead figurine, most probably a toy. Skirt very pleated'. An examination of works on lead toys (Forsyth and Egan 2005) and pilgrim badges (Spencer 1998) failed to find any parallels and it is possible that it represents the remains of one of the so called 'bird feeders' (these are too narrow and deep to have allowed a bird to feed or drink). A post Medieval da…
