2019 T201 Roman gold finger ring dating from the 1st to 3rd century AD. Thin strip of sheet gold that has been bent into the shape of a finger-ring, which may have been its intended purpose. The sides of the object are bent inwards, probably the result of post-depositional processes. The surface of the object is decorated with two sets of incised parallel lines that form a chevron pattern; in places, these are intersected by incised lines that run in opposition to them, thus creating cross-hatching. One part of very heavily worn, such that the pattern is entirely absent. Th…

Description: Roman silver finger ring with gem-set bezel of Henig's Type II (Guiraud Type 2). The gem is a carnelian and is oval in shape. It is engraved with a male figure, possibly Mars Gradivus, helmeted, advancing left (as seen on the gem), carrying a trophy over one shoulder and a spear across the body. There are some signs of cracking or fissuring on the interior of the loop. The artefact has been cleaned by the finde…

Gold finger ring with an oval bezel set with an ellipsoid polished amethyst stone. Complete but slightly squashed vertically. The bezel connects to the ring with two triangular shoulders, each of which are incised with two vertical grooves, two grooves tapering to a point and two small spirals in a symmetrical pattern. The band is cast with a pattern of 4 long, flat diamond shapes on its outer surface. The inner surface shows no deliberate markings. There is no plate under the gem; it is held in place by a slim gold band (c.1.5mm) which attaches to the bezel. The gemstone does not app…

Description: Silver 'snake' ring consisting of a triple spiral of metal of lenticular section which terminates at one end in a flattened, sub-triangular snake head and at the other with a twisted and narrowing tail. The head is detailed with grooves and the body by a pair of crudely traced lines that follow the edge of the metal; the area between the lines is infilled with short parallel lines, rather roughly executed, to give the impression of scales. A Roman finger-ring, complete with the exception of a missing intaglio. The metal content is currently uncertain, although some degree of silver is suspected. At the base of the hoop the band has an oval to 'D' shaped cross-section with the inner surface being slightly flatter than the outer surface. The band measures 1.3mm x 2.9mm at this point. A silver finger ring, probably of Roman date, probably AD 43 - 300. It is a Henig type II ring with the setting, if there was one, missing. The hoop is badly bent. It flares round the bezel which has a shallow oval depression which probably held a setting or a circular metal applique soldered on. Many Roman finger rings have an oval or D-shaped cross-section while this ring is more rectangular in cross-section. It is current bent configuration, it is 24.5mm long, 7.4mm wide and 9mm thick. 2.93g. Compare LIN-04D538 (2013 T846), though this has a deeper depression for an intaglio setting.

A cast silver finger ring, circular hoop with incised cross decoration and two opposing snake heads on the bezel.
