A copper alloy disc of a later Early Medieval ansate brooch. The object is a disc from one end of an ansate brooch with one decorated face. The decoration consists of cells which would originally have been infilled with enamel/glass/coloured paste. Corrosion within the cells suggests some colour differentiation. There is no obvious organisation of the cells other than that they follow a circular pattern with a cross in the centre. The underside is undecorated and has a corroded lug. A fragment of a cast copper alloy trumpet brooch, comprising the incomplete head and part of the bow, of early Roman date (c. AD 75-175). The lower bow, spring and pin are missing. The brooch's head is sub-circular in plan. The bow is curving with a debased acanthus moulding at the mid-point. The rest of the bow has broken off beside the acanthus moulding. Dimensions: length 30.37mm, width of head 8.7mm, width of acanthus moulding 9.08mm, thickness 11.91mm. Weight 7.63g.
