A tin or copper alloy fitting, possible a strap end, with a box like enclosed plate which has four decorative ridges running along it. The rear edge has a decorated slightly scalloped edge with, two rivets remaining in situ. The front end has a large, rounded projecting loop and a small rectangular cutaway to the plate giving the aperture a keyhole shape. The plate is rectangular in cross section and hollow to take a thin strap. Probably of late medieval to early post medieval date but of uncertain function.

A cast tin alloy early medieval-style strap-end. The object is sub-rectangular in plan with a squared off terminal end and sides which taper in width down to a rounded zoomorphic head. In the centre of the object is a sub-rectangular recessed panel containing a moulded interlace design in relief. The interlace extends to form the head and snout of the animal. Above the head, to either side, are a pair of stylised ears with lobed tips containing a small circular depression. Below these to either side of the head are a pair of almond shaped eyes.

A Medieval cast strap end, c. 1400-1600 AD. The strap end has openwork decoration consisting of a quatrefoil at the front, and a terminal in the form of a twisted and knotted cord surrounding a figure, possibly a bird. A single rivet survives at the top near the attachment edge. The objects appears to have been in contact with fire leaving the surface bobbled and distorted. A very similar example can be seen in MEOLS 2007 page 138 figure 2.5.8.
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of the strap end identified the metal as tin, with no detectable precious metal. …

A small, worn cast tin strap-end dating to the late medieval period. The artefact is sub oval in shape. In section it is rectangular with rounded corners. The object is hollow with a rectangular aperture at the attachment end; this has been distorted through old damage with the obverse face pushed fowards. There is a circular perforation through both faces at the attachment end. The reverse is plain. The obverse features a raised border which terminates in two opposing, but joined, lobes.
