Incomplete medieval crescentic strap-end, crescentic back-plate missing. It was held in position by four rivets, two of iron next to the attachment edge, and two of copper alloy. Large broken perforated foliate terminal. The engraved, cross-hatched and drilled decoration is very similar to that on an example from Abingdon (Fingerlin 1971 Abb. 314, Kat. Nr. 239), and to an incomplete piece from Quidenham (HER 37284). Extant length 47.5mm. Width 30.5mm. First half 15th century.

A copper alloy probable strap end of Early Medieval date, about AD 750 - 950. It is probably of Thomas Class A, uncertain subtype. It is incomplete, both ends having broken off, but the central part has convex sides which are scalloped. There is a central rectangular panel which appears to be decorated with an inscription or maybe just two letters: a Roman N [retrograde] and a curved letter which is incomplete. The letters are formed from many tiny dots or circular punches and appear to have serifs. An iron rivet perforates the plate near the narrower end. The narrow end appears to hav…

A copper alloy strap end, dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1200 - 1400. It consists of two sub-rectangular plates, which taper from a square attachment end to a rounded outer end, and are held together by two copper alloy rivets, one at teach end. Both rivets remain in place. The strap end is undecorated and has a patchy, smooth, green patina. It is 20.6mm long, 8.3mm wide and 2.7mm thick. It weighs 1.42gm. Strap ends of this type are illustrated in Egan, 1991, Dress Accessories c. 1150 - 1450, page 133, number 609, though the rivet arrangement is different.

A copper alloy Medieval globular or spherical strap-end dating from about AD 1200 - 1500. The strap end is a sub-spherical knop with a flattened end and a projecting sub-rectangular sectioned shaft which splits into two plates, which have rounded ends with a corroded rivet hole through both plates. It is 16.3mm long, 11.5mm diameter and 5.2g. Such objects are not readily paralleled in the literature, but a number have been recorded on this database, e.g. WMID-498871, WAW-414503, NLM-74B5E9, NLM-26AF51 and SF-264006.

Copper alloy strap end. Cast zoomorphic strap end of elongated oval form with a split inner end bearing paired drilled holes for stitched attachment and a zoomorphic terminal, Thomas Class A Type 1. The strap-end is formed of two sheet metal plates. A circular rivet hole contains the remains of a copper-alloy rivet at the attachment end. There appears to be no rivet at the terminal end, so the plates are likely to be soldered together. The front plate has inscribed saltires forming lozenges. Copper alloy strap end. A wide strap end made by the joining of two rectangular plates of thickness 1.7mm and 0.7mm, and subsequently by the cutting and rubbing down of their corners and of one end to produce a near-circular form. A pair of rivets of diameter 3.5mm and maximum length c.5mm attached the plates to each other and to the strap [lost]. The surface is heavily glossed, probably by continuous contact with fabric. A dense cluster of tiny [length c.1mm] nicks or punch marks appears centrally on either side. The fixing is accomplished by riveting, a medieval trait, but the wide s…
