An incomplete Late Early-Medieval (c.950-1050) copper alloy openwork strap-end or mount with separate iron rivets. It has broken transversely and the break is old and worn. The object is rectangular in shape and slightly concave to the reverse, which is undecorated. There is a rivet hole in each of the two original corners, one containing a corroded iron rivet while the other is empty and 2.1mm in diameter. Am incomplete early Medieval copper alloy strap-end dating to 800-1000 AD. Description: Thomas Class A, type 4. The strap-end is very worn amd the attachment end is missing. It is sub-oval in shape, and the terminal has a pointed snout. The surface consists of four rectangular panels with remains of champleve enamel inlay. The tip of the strap-end has a V-shaped incised line. Measurements: The strap-end is 39.6mm in length, 12.1mm in width, 2.5mm in thickness, and weighs 6.4g.

A complete cast copper-alloy strap end dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. It is broadly rectangular in plan, being composed of two slightly tapering plates joined at their upper and lower edges by a single circular-sectioned rivet. A sub-rectangular flattened knop extends from the base of the strap end below the lower rivet, while the upper edge of the strap-end is decorated with an engraved saltire within a solid rectangular border. A Medieval copper alloy two-piece strap end, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1450. The strap end is tongue shaped in plan, terminating in a squat knop and made of two sheets of copper alloy with the backplate at the terminal end only; the two plates are held together by a crudely punched, seperately made copper alloy rivet. The frontplate is decorated with a pattern of engraved zigzags ('rocker-arm') in a herring bone arrangement. The strapend appears to be broken at the attachment end. A small and incomplete cast copper alloy strap end dating to the early-medieval period (c. AD 750-950). The strap end is oval in plan and has a worn and vaguely zoomorphic snout. The central panel has a zoomorphic beast and punched dots, of which the form is not immediately discernable. At the attachment end of the strap end one rivet remains while the other rivet hole is broken. The reverse is plain and undecorated.

Medieval copper-alloy composite strap end with cast spacer. The flat spacer has two forks, rectangular in section meeting at a U shape in the bottom and with pointed upper ends, below these is a raised collar then a pointed oval knop terminal. Copper alloy sheet plates were soldered to each side although they are now loose and bent out, they covered the spacer almost entirely apart from the sides. These sheets follow the shape of the spacer with sides tapering in slightly towards the terminal then rounded terminals ending in straight edges which abut the collar. At the attachment end …

A complete copper-alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 750 - 950. The strap end is of Thomas' Class A, Type 2 being tongue shaped with a zoomorphic terminal. The opposite terminal is forked with a single central rivet for attachment. The upper surface of the strap end bears a raided rectangular panel of worn decorated which can no longer be determined. The zoomorphic terminal is in the form of a crude forward facing animal head with worn eyes and snout. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. It has a rounded tip and a longitudinal ridge on the front face which gives the object a triangular cross section. The top of the object is bifurcated and forms two projecting rounded arms. The strap end is openwork and symmetrical in design and formed of a simple plant scroll which is bevelled at the edges. The strap end is trapezoidal in shape with a lozenge shaped knop at the closed end and a zig zag bi-concave shape at the attachment end. It measures 18.95mm in length, is 13.09mm in width (tapering down to the break, which is pointed) and weighs 0.94g. There are two rivets, in the rivet holes, which are at the top end of the mount. Either side of these rivets are two linear incisions, which run the length of the mount. There is no further decoration on the back.
