An incomplete medieval copper alloy single loop buckle dating to c AD 1250-1400.  The buckle is trapezoidal in shape and is decorated with three lobed knops on the outer edges and centre of the front of the frame.  The central knop is larger and decorated with incised lines flaring out from the central pin rest.  At the opposite end there is evidence of the depressed markings created by the pin on the strap bar.  The pin is now missing. A fragment of a Post Medieval copper alloy rectangular two piece buckle - frame and spindle, dating to c AD 1720- 1790. What remains is most of one long side of the frame with the slightly rounded corner and a short section of a short side. There are early breaks at both ends, the one on the short side being at the point where the separate spindle was held in the thickness of the frame. An incomplete cast copper-alloy late Roman non-zoomorphic buckle, with integral triangular plate dating to c.AD 350-400. The frame is kidney- or heart-shaped in plan, in that it is D-shaped but with a concave front edge. It is sub-circualr in cross-section. A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790.  The buckle is complete.  The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted.  The buckle may have been tinned.  This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots.  The buckle has no chape.  Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight. cf. A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy oval probable shoe or knee buckle with drilled frame for separate spindle, dating to c. AD 1660-1720. The buckle frame is narrow and curved, rising up at the points where the frame has been drilled. Only a central line around the frame remains of any decoration. The buckle frame has moulded and incised trefoil decoration on the outer edge of each loop and at end end of the strap bar. Part of the outer edge of one loop is missing due to an old break. The pin is also missing. Traces of rust on the buckle suggest the pin was made of iron.  Dimensions: length: 27.6mm; width: 39.9mm; thickness: 2.8mm; weight: 3.63g.
