The buckle consists of an oval frame with a narrowed bar and an offset expanded outer edge, with a recess fror a separate sheet roller, now lost. An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame (c. 1620-c. 1680). One loop and the pin are missing. The surviving trapezoidal loop is flat at the front and rear. At the front it is bevelled internally and externally. The outside edge is pointed and there is a lobe at each corner. A notch as a pin rest is present on the upper face of the outside edge. The frame consists of a single D-shaped loop with a narrowed and offset bar, sub-rectangular in cross section and with a lipped protrusion on the outside edge to accomodate the pin, now lost. The front plate from a medieval buckle or clasp, 32.9mm in length, with four rivet holes and the remnant of one of a pair of loops at one end which would have wrapped around a bar and connected to the rear plate, now lost. There is an incised or chased double line border around the front, possibly as a frame for other decoration which is now illegible. Probably from a medieval single loop buckle, circa 13th-15th century.
