Extant length 23mm. Width 18mm. Plate decorated with remains of symmetrical foliate decoration reserved on an enamelled field, enamel decayed or missing. 13th-century.

A medieval copper alloy single looped buckle, Meols type 8, probably dating to AD 1250-1425. The buckle frame comprises of an oval loop with an offset bar and expanded outer edge of four knops, the outer two being smaller. The frame has a plano-convex cross section. Dimensions: length 15.5mm; width 15.1mm; thickness 2.7mm; weight 1.06g. cf. Egan & Pritchard (1991: 73) nos. 292 & 302, Griffiths, Philpott & Egan (2007 89) nos. 524-538.

Engraved decoration comprises a transverse groove and a short longitudinal groove on both edges. A curve in profile is probably the result of distortion. Very close to Whitehead 2003, no. 524. This item has a large flat oval plate with a circular recess in the centre, the surround rim in is decorated with a series notches, this area also displays traces of gilding. There are two arms each paced on opposing sides, one arm is straight an forms the pin for the buckle while the other is bent into a penannular loop that would be attached to the frame.

An incomplete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) buckle pin (c. 575-625). The loop is largely missing. This pin is a 'shield-on-tongue' type. The integral plate over the pin is shaped like a violin or fiddle. It is flat on the upper face with bevelled edges and flat on the underside. The frame has circumferential moulded decorative lines, and is thickened with pin rests at the outer ends of the loops, and has lobed knops at the ends of the narrowed strap bar. An incomplete copper-alloy 'disc-on-pin' type buckle pin of medieval date, c.AD 1300 - 1500. The pin comprises a flat, sub-lozenge-shaped central disc, with two points projecting from opposite ends. Both points terminate in worn breaks. The central disc retains four bossed rivets; three in a row with one to the side of the central rivet. An incomplete corroded Medieval copper-alloy annular buckle pin or possibly a brooch pin (c. 1350-c.1400). The loop is incomplete. The tapering shaft is sub-oval in cross-section and the loop is similar in cross-section. On the upper face, between the shaft and loop, there is a parallel transverse ridge. This pin has a matt greyish green patina Length: 49.58mm; width: 4.87mm;. Weight: 5.4g. A similar buckle pin from archaeological excavations in London has been dated c.1350-1400 (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 116, fig. 75, ref: 547).

It has an offset narrowed bar and a incised notch on the outside frame for the pin to rest. The pin is missing. The buckle has a dark green patina and is worn to leave a flat surface on both sides of the frame. Measurements: 13.3mm in length, 13.4mm in width, 3.4mm in thickness, and weighs 1.89g Discussion: A similar buckle in Egan & Pritchard 1991, no 374 was found in a context dating to 1270-1350, hence the chosen date of this buckle.
