A fragment from a copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative large south-western T-shaped brooch of Hull T139, dating to c.AD 50-150. The brooch is missing its foot and pin.
The wings of the brooch are 25.73mm wide and are cylindrical with a maximum diameter of 4.89mm at the bow and narrowing slightly towards their tips. Their front faces are decorated by a double incised line placed close to their outside edges. An incomplete and worn cast copper-alloy Colchester one piece brooch dating from the Late Iron Age to Roman period (c. AD 25-60). The catchplate pin and part of the spring are missing.
The head of the brooch possesses two short wings which have a total width of 10.5mm. They are thin and rectangular in when viewed from the front of the brooch. Copper alloy brooch. A small cast Colchester derivative brooch with a sprung rear-hook fastening [spring lost], Mackreth type CD RH 5.k. Semi-circular or concave wings open behind are clasped by a plain bow of rounded section with the broken stub of a rearward-facing hook on the top of the bow. The bow tapers towards a plain foot though only an area of roughened texture may indicate the former position of a catch plate. Suggested date: Early Roman, 50-100

A copper alloy Roman Prestatyn type brooch. The bow is wider at the top, narrowing to a rounded tip. It is divided into two vertical cells with a cast in line, these may have been enamelled. Behind the lower half of the bow there are two extentions wider than the brooch but less deep. The bow is slightly hollow. An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative, rear-hook brooch, probably dating to c. AD 43-100. Only the sprung pin mechanism is missing.
The wings survives to a width of 19.1mm and are crescent shaped with a convex front and concave reverse leaving a C-shaped recess for the spring to sit within. An incomplete Roman copper alloy hinged double lugged trumpet brooch, dating between AD 80-200.
The head of the brooch is ovate, with two integral pierced semi circular lugs on the reverse to accommodate an axis bar. Between both pierced lugs sits an intact copper alloy spring of four coils with a semi-circular loop set behind the spring, hanging toward the foot. An incomplete cast copper-alloy T.shaped Initial, hinged brooch of Roman date (AD 50-150).
Description: The head of the brooch consists of tubular wings, with a slot for a hinged pin, now missing, the axis bar for which is threaded through the wings. The bow narrows slightly from the head and ends in a transverse break. It is decorated with a raised moulded triangle, the sides of which are engraved. The foot of the brooch is missing along with the catchplate. The brooch has a dark brown patina.

It is missing most of the spring, pin and catchplate due to old breaks, and has suffered from extensive post-depositional wear and corrosion. The brooch has flat rectangular wings, separated at the centre of the head by an integral spring and hook, both of which are incomplete due to old breaks.
