Silver penny of Edward I which has been gilded and made into a brooch. A Class 1c penny of 1279. The reverse is gilded and the obverse has a hook piece soldered to it (following the line if the long cross on the reverse). The hook is made from a trapezoidal sectioned strip of silver. Incomplete silver penny of Edward I, Mint London, Class 2b January - May 1280. The penny has been reused to form a brooch with a small silver loop being soldered to the obverse face. It has been applied in such a way that the cross on the reverse is vertical. It is possible that the front face has also been gilt (although this may be a result of the burial conditions). The lower part of thE coin has been lost - probably as a result of movement in the soil.
